HOW CAN IT HAPPEN? Snatch thieves expect you to be off guard when they strike, and all they need is a few seconds to make their getaway. Common methods used to distract attention are: Approaching victims on the pretext of striking up a conversation, seeking assistance, changing cash, etc Snatching handbags / necklaces / valuables from the rear by motorcyclists Soiling victims' clothing and offering to clean the stains Telling victims that he / she has dropped money on the floor PREVENTIVE MEASURES Snatch thefts can be prevented. You can minimize the risk of being a victim if you take up simple crime preventive measures Avoid taking shortcuts through dark alleys or secluded areas Always keep to well-lit areas Be wary of suspicious characters who follow or try to distract your attention Avoid carrying large amounts of cash Use cashless transactions such as NETS, credit cards, cheques, etc Do not flaunt cash in public view When walking, clutch your handbag tightly under your arm and its strap slung across the body.
